Extra Olives

“Green”

Hey, guys- if you dig spicy, order a bottle or two of this stuff! It’s Sukang Maanghang, Filipino-style spicy vinegar, and it’s addictive, wonderfully sour HEAT. A fellow designerly coworker makes it, and is taking orders now! It goes on my eggs and with my salad most often, and can go on pretty much anything you deem worthy. Tonight, I made this mondo-rific turkey burger- doused the greens and mixed the stuff in with some mayo as well. I’ve refilled mine enough that it’s time to order another. Here’s the link to get some too, if you’d like:

“Yar”

Toured a bunch of ships today at the festival along the Tacoma waterfront in celebration of my dad, as he’s a big maritime fan. Here he is in one of his signature shirts from a time when I was still lucky enough to cruise around on a Big Wheel (strangely, my current Beetle is bright yellow with a bubble gum pink “LOVE” sticker on the back, so keepin’ things consistent in the realm of color, it looks like).

My dad has my back, always. Over the years, I’ve witnessed him leave behind the crusty, guarded anger of youth to reveal a soft-hearted man with kindness as his default. He’s discovered he’s a funny guy, and looks for opportunities to interject a little wit and warmth- he’s a regular around town where many know his name and welcome him readily. He’s helped me in countless and ever consistent ways. Thanks, Dad! ♦

This Looks and Sounds Familiar

“Repeat”

Here’s the ornate-ish urn thingie hanging from my balcony, and guess what’s inside?? BABY BIRDS! This is the second year they’ve made their home there (that I’m aware) and I love, love, love the absolute squall they make when a birdly parent returns to swoop in with offerings of food for their gaping gullets. No build up, no die down, just a perfect continuous CHEE-CHEE-CHEE brought to a sharp close as though a conductor were leading them to a fine finish. ♦
