LAIKA

I’ve heard and seen some fantastic stuff as of late. Spent time sourcing a bunch of imagery from decades past leaving me with extra unusual dreams and a plethora of ideas. So much of life seems to have been a collection of them saved for someday instead of any execution. Gotta change that. Will I ever? Perhaps if I go back to the days of no sleep…

A coupla weeks back a coworker told me that Laika had a several months-long exhibit ending the very next weekend down at the Portland Art Museum. She said it in a way that let me know she thought I’d know what that was and instead of just copping to it, I played along as though I knew, only to Google it soon after. LAIKA! Le and duh. Creator of such lovely works as Coraline and The Boxtrolls. Stop motion animation extraordinaire, a favorite style since first laying eyes on it as a kid. I could stand to learn directors and production companies a heckuva lot better- having praised the product and not the creator nearly enough.

I promptly messaged Bean proclaiming how bummed I was that we’d miss it, both afore mentioned films having grown arms and legs in our lives a wee bit. Sent another message on the heels of the first asking if she had a day off available in the next week. “Can you take Tuesday off?” was the quick reply and we were in business. Hoorah!

LAIKA

Someone joined us on our trip, marching her way toward the entrance.

First stop was the door of the upstairs neighbor in Coraline, seen here on what was the marvelous build of the very pink house featured in the film. Then all too soon, we found ourselves staring down Other Mother in all her creepery and crawlery.

We stopped for the perfect snack and some music.

Next up, the phenomenal characters and scenery. Satisfied eyes!

AUDIO BREAK (to me, at least)

“You look like that one actress.”

I’ve heard that twice now the past week.

“Oh? Which one?”

Neither person had an answer.

I (almost) want this shirt.

Social media continues to royally sucketh. Pinterest now forcibly includes whatever it pleases in the description of the pinned image, sometimes the original pinner’s title or caption, sometimes the website from which it was pinned, completely overriding whatever text I wish to include. It ruins any self expression and muddies the look of the images. Screw ’em.

And Instagram, what a hot mess of horrible. TWO accounts I’ve used for Biddlefufty to-doings have locked me out proclaiming my attempted log-ins as suspicious activity. Despite following the guidelines I’ve found and followed in order to restore them, they NEVER work. So, two inaccessible accounts just sit there without any ability to re-access them, or at least, delete them. Drives me a little wonky. I don’t like unattended trails strewn about the web. I either intend to use it, or it’s gone. Speaking of unattended, I finally completed the two sites for my art and portfolio respectively. Glitches continue to antagonize- things are misaligned, things are stretched, links don’t work, but only sometimes, and then sometimes not, despite clean code that designates otherwise. Mostly, this is on the mobile version which I despise anyway- responsive design is a joke. There are constant updates which attempt to fix one glitch only to produce another. Such is WordPress. I mean, Apple. I mean, LIFE. < << That's not the loveliest way to end a post, so...

Ride

Shane hit me up to help in procuring tickets to some upcoming musicals in order to surprise Bean. Ride the Cyclone was among them, and an absolute delight! A ton of humor and talent, and touching as well. Macabre + musical. A version of the set should reside in my home.
