A WEARER OF NIFTY BOOTS
Went to hear British novelist and essayist Nick Hornby share about his latest book, Funny Girl, up at Town Hall in Seattle recently. Author of Fever Pitch, High Fidelity, About a Boy, and A Long Way Down, he wrote the acclaimed film adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, Wild, as well as a host of other works.
Bean and I were among a roomful of other fans eager for him to share about whatever he felt like, and weren’t disappointed with the story of how he decided on his recent tale for telling, that of working with Strayed- fitting last name- and (Reese) Witherspoon in the creation of the screenplay. He touched on many of his past works in fact, as questions from the audience rolled in one after another. We stood in line at the end to meet and greet the ever gracious man and have him bestow his mark upon our newly purchased books. Next up on the reading list!
